How we choose and review well equipment

Every buying guide on Boreholeflow is built from field experience first and spec sheets second. Here is exactly how products get on our lists, and what never influences them.

Who writes the reviews

A working borehole driller, not a content farm

Boreholeflow is written by Ateya, Project Manager at Bonvic Drilling Co. Ltd, a borehole drilling company founded in 2010. The guides draw on years of specifying pumps, sizing pressure tanks, commissioning systems and fixing failed installations.

Brand names differ between countries, but the engineering does not. That is why the same principles apply whether your well is in the US, Europe, Australia or Africa.

Our process

Six steps behind every buying guide

  1. Find the real problem behind the search, such as short cycling, low pressure or iron staining, so the guide answers what owners actually need.
  2. Survey the products sold by major retailers and plumbing suppliers in the US and Europe.
  3. Compare specifications against what matters in the field, using the criteria below.
  4. Cross check each product against failure patterns seen with the same or equivalent equipment.
  5. Narrow the list to the five to seven products worth recommending, with a clear pick for each type of owner.
  6. Add the sizing math and setup steps, so you can install and run what you buy correctly.
What we look at

The criteria that decide our picks

These are the factors that separate a pump or tank that lasts from one that fails early.

Sizing and capacity

Flow rate, head, drawdown and tank volume matched to real household and farm demand.

Pressure ratings

Maximum working pressure, switch ranges and precharge settings that suit the system.

Materials and build

Stainless steel versus plastic, bladder quality, seals, impellers and corrosion resistance.

Warranty and support

Warranty length, what it actually covers and how easy parts are to find.

Installation fit

Connection sizes, voltage, 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions and how hard it is to install.

Known failure patterns

What tends to go wrong with this type of equipment, and how early it shows up.

Our rules

What never influences a ranking

Commissions

We earn affiliate commissions on some links, but the rate a retailer pays never decides a product’s position. A product that earns less can and does rank higher.

Paid placements

We do not accept payment to include, review or rank a product. Free samples, if accepted, are disclosed and judged by the same criteria.

Invented testing

We do not claim lab tests or months of hands-on use that did not happen. If we have not installed a specific model, the guide says so and explains what the recommendation is based on.

Keeping guides accurate

Updates and corrections

Guides are reviewed when products are discontinued, redesigned or start showing new failure patterns. The date at the top of each guide shows when it was last updated.

Spotted an error, an outdated model or a better product? Tell us and it will be checked and corrected. Read the full affiliate disclosure for how the site earns money.
